President’s report for newly elected Guyana Chapter Old Students Association.

Dexter Wyles, Guyana Chapter PresidentFirstly, let me thank all those past North Ruimveldt Multilateral students that came out to make our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2024 a success. Thank you for giving up your Saturday afternoon and coming out and showing your support for the Local Chapter.

The local chapter was a bit behind on things, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meetings weren’t being held and of such, no fundraisers were being held and hence the bank account went dormant.

Nevertheless, the past executives still were able to keep up to date with things as they relate to the school. There were a few interactions with the school’s administration and the Parent Teachers Association (PTA). Past President Mr. Rendell Harry was able to conduct the smooth handing over of items donated to the school from the US Chapter. The Local Chapter played a small role in the school’s last graduation exercise held in November of 2023.

The Local Chapter was given a shot in the arm, with the birth of a WhatsApp group of some past students had formed. This group was formed due to the death of a past student. The group meets monthly on a more social side. Mr. Damion Burrows and Ms. Amanda Beaten are the guardians of this group which has over one hundred (100) members. I was invited to join the group and then introduced to the group to be a part of the Local Chapter which they were happy to be a part of.

Currently three (3) of their members are elected to this new committee. Mr. Orin Dos Santos is the Assistant Treasurer, Mr. Julius Campbell and Ms. Marcia King are committee members.

Prior to the AGM we had another meeting in June and both meetings were well attended with over thirty (30) people in attendance, and this was mainly because of these new members.

This newly elected executive committee is a diverse one, with members from the 70s all the way to the late 90s. A tremendous wealth of experience will be had from this group.

This new executive focus is to make the Local Chapter vibrant again and to work with all past students and stakeholders (School, Administration, Parent Teachers Association and Overseas Chapters)

FUNDRAISER
The new executives have already embarked on a fund-raising activity, which is in the form of a party at the Pelican Inn Night Club on Hadfield Street W/Rust. The date is the 26th of July.
The Quartey Games Night will be re-started, this will bring back the comradery between the past students and help with raising some funds.
